BarkUpToday publishes dog health and breed information separately from product shopping recommendations. This page explains how our buying guides are researched, how products are compared, and when we can accurately say that a product has been tested.
How We Research Products
We identify a specific use case, such as shampoo for a dog with sensitive skin or a grooming brush for a double-coated breed. We compare manufacturer specifications, ingredient disclosures, sizing, safety warnings, veterinary guidance where relevant, availability, and clearly disclosed pricing. We distinguish marketing claims from independently supported information.
What “Tested” Means
We do not claim hands-on testing unless it actually occurred. Each buying guide will identify whether its recommendations are based on desk research, a documented hands-on evaluation, or a combination. A hands-on evaluation, when performed, should identify the product version, evaluation date, tester, practical method, observed performance, and limitations. Until those details exist, guides will be labeled research-based comparisons rather than hands-on tests.
How We Evaluate Dog Shampoos
For shampoos, we examine the intended coat and skin type, ingredient labeling, fragrance and potential irritants, manufacturer directions, rinsability claims, packaging, price per unit, and suitability limitations. We do not assume a cosmetic shampoo treats skin disease. Dogs with persistent itching, infections, or skin lesions need veterinary evaluation, and medicated products should be selected with veterinary guidance.
How We Evaluate Breed-Specific Products
We consider the breed’s coat type, body size, grooming needs, activity level, and common handling challenges. Breed labels are a starting point, not a substitute for the individual dog’s measurements, health, or preferences.
Editorial Independence and Commercial Relationships
Product inclusion is not a guarantee of endorsement. When affiliate links, sponsorships, samples, or other commercial relationships are present, they will be disclosed prominently in the relevant article. Payment should not determine safety conclusions or override editorial judgment. BarkUpToday may eventually introduce its own products; those will be clearly identified as BarkUpToday products and evaluated separately from independent comparisons.
Authors, Expert Review and Corrections
Articles identify BarkUpToday as the editorial publisher and display publication or update information where supported. Veterinary review or fact-checker credentials will be credited only when a real, identifiable qualified reviewer has completed that work. Research-based articles are not a substitute for veterinary advice. We correct material errors and update recommendations when meaningful information changes.
What We Do Not Promise
No product is best for every dog. We do not guarantee medical outcomes, allergy safety, or universal suitability. We do not invent testing results, reviewer credentials, product prices, or user experiences.
For general standards, see our editorial policy.
